An Elementary Carol

This is a novella written after seeing the movie The Man Who Made Christmas about Charles Dickens writing A Christmas Carol. I enjoyed his style and his message. I applied it to an elementary school with a Scrooge-like principal. God uses a kind and generous boy with learning disabilities to throw the grumpy principal into fits of rage. The principal gets visited by the ghost of Charles Darwin and the spirits of education past present and future. With the mischief used by Charles Dickens the message is that building good character is more valuable than achieving high scores on standardized tests.

Love Lessons

This is a romance novel written for mother-in-law for her 94th birthday. She loves romance novels. She enjoyed this one. In it a young conservative man and a young liberal woman clash when the man buys a soup kitchen building she volunteers at. There conflict is so strong they both find themselves physically ill. Grandparents on each side talk the two into taking a class called Love Lessons taught by a man who reaches out to Muslims with the love of God. They're shocked to discover they're both in the class and more shocked to discover they're both attempting to help the same young black boy in Detroit. They find a way to work together on a project for a bad part of Detroit, but their political differences seem insurmountable. They part ways. The boy's mother gives up drugs but is given a lethal overdose against her will. What had been going so well becomes a nightmare as the boy and his sister are to be sent to a most undesirable situation.

He befriends and converts a girl deeply involved in casting curses for the benefit of the wealthy and evil. When she repents and joins forces with Wilbur the world get to see the power of God is far greater than the power of the demonic. This book was written because I know too many Christians who like Harry Potter. Children need see that with God in their heart they can take on the forces of evil.
